When communicating with people from different countries and cultures, be it for business or personal reasons, it is highly likely that you will use the Internet as a primary communication channel. An understanding of the Internet statistics China and various other foreign countries can go a long way to helping you understand the online behaviour and preferences of those you are communicating with. For example, a brief look at Internet statistics in China provides some useful insights into how consumers in this country differ from those in the UK.
How Digital is China?
While we in the UK are one of the most connected countries with 82.5% Internet penetration, Internet user statistics on the Digital Life site show that China has only 31.6% Internet access, despite the fact that their online population (420, 000, 000) is so much greater than that of the UK (51 442 100). While the average age of Internet users in China is 35.2, statistics tell us the average UK age is not much older at 39.8.

Rapid onslaught of future, a collection of jumbled imagery, words blending into sense from hieroglyphics – the WordLens (a new iPhone translation application) is all of this. Point your iPhone at a Spanish sign and the worlds melt into English. Companies that offer Spanish, Chinese and French translation in London may even be investing in technology such as the Word Lens in order to happily acclimatize their students into the complicated world of on-the-fly translations. For two and a half years, QuestVisual has been hard at work on their WordLens application – this is two and a half years of sweat, blood and tears for a company that has labored under the notion that their iPhone application will change the very way we see words themselves. For under $5, you too can own a piece of the future.

In the upcoming movie, ‘Tron: Legacy’ the protagonist of the film drives a futuristic bike made up of light and data called a ‘Light-Cycle’. In reality, these road bikes would never be sold at the local car dealers that populate our globe. Unsurprisingly, one entrepreneurial custom motorbike workshop has managed to create their street-legal version of the Light-Cycle; shockingly the asking price is as low as $35,000 (£22,333). The workshop is known as the Parker Brothers (after the legendary board game and toy makers) and is offering the Light-Cycles in five different varieties; these road bikes will come in one of five colours namely red, blue, yellow, green, and orange.

For the many online Maltese businesses such as Malta gaming firms, Malta tourism agencies and so on, a spate of cyber attacks is threatening to decrease sales and increase website corruption. According to a recent poll performed by the European nations, the rise of cyber attacks and the types of various illegal online hacking attempts have caused major confusion for the unlucky browsers of Malta websites. Maltese websites are on the rise and as they begin to see better ROI (return on investment), the chances of being attacked by a malicious outside force is not in their best interest. With each attack, their website ability to grab customers drops by an alarming rate.

The internet statistics South Africa shows us a number of startling facts. Firstly, our internet penetration is well below the global average, with only 10.8% of South Africa’s population enjoying unrestricted access to the internet. This means that out of 55 million South Africans, only 5, 3 million use the internet via wireless, mobile or broadband connections. South African internet statistics may be lower than global indicators, yet their quick adoption rate to current technology is one of their primary strengths and will assuredly help them to improve their internet adoption rate.
